Ottawa Region MISA Professional Network Centre

The Ottawa Region MISA Professional Network Centre is a network of dedicated educational professionals, made up of member school boards encompassing the eastern region of Ontario. Our PNC promotes evidence informed decision-making in improving student achievement through the MISA (Managing Information for Student Achievement) initiative of the Ontario Ministry of Education. The Ottawa Region MISA PNC is administered by the Eastern Ontario Staff Development Network, with the Ottawa Catholic School Board as financial administrator. Funded by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

Our Vision

MISA East continuously strives to support the local capacity building components of the MISA initiatives by fostering a culture of evidence-informed decision-making through communication, sharing of resources, innovation, and collaboration with the goal of enhanced student achievement.

We strive to…

  • Promote evidence-based decision-making at the classroom, school and system levels that enhance student achievement
  • Collaborate and share professional learning within our member boards regarding managing information for student achievement
  • Support data management procedures that result in complete, accurate, reliable, valid, and relevant data
  • Develop ethical procedures, within the context of Privacy and Information Management, in the collection, analysis, interpretation and communication of data related to student learning, demographics, perceptions, and school processes
  • Highlight research-based best practices to inform policy, procedures and practices among our member boards
  • Affirm the Ministry of Education goals of high levels of student achievement; reduced gaps in student achievement; high levels of public confidence in public~education.

Our Objectives

The objective of this site is to provide a location for Teachers, Principals, and Senior Admin to access resources, materials, and learning opportunities for improving Information Literacy, Statistical Literacy, and Data Literacy.

Modules have been developed to provide a variety of learning opportunities for each group of learners. These modules can be completed in sequence (start to finish), or a learner can pick and choose the sections from each module that most interests them!

While many electronic resources have been provided for individual use, there are also opportunities to use the resources in small groups, or to join a large group (even at another board!) Check out our calendar of events to see what is going on in our Region!

The resources on this site are available to use by all boards in our Region. Learners are welcome to download documents for your individual use, with learning networks, or for broader Professional Development in your Board!

Our Governance Procedures

1. Our Centre development and operation will be coordinated by EOSDN with the Ottawa Catholic School Board providing financial management. Each board on the planning team will have an equal voice in decision-making. It was agreed that decisions of the group would be made by a collaborative consensus process.

2. Coordination of Centre activities: financial management, communication, facilitation, event management, administrative costs, and reporting. A Project Coordinator will be identified.

3. A Steering Committee made up of representation from each board in the Ottawa Region develops, approves and revises plans. Boards identify their representatives to act on their behalf. In most cases it is the MISA Leader for each board. Working Groups are developed by the Steering Committee for tasks and exist on a "needs" basis. They will be representative of the region and appropriate to the task. Regular meetings of MISA PNC Steering Committee will occur.

4. Decisions of the Steering Committee and Working Groups are made by collaborative consensus. Minutes and action items are recorded and circulated to committees involved.

5. Annual needs assessment survey or focus group to identify gaps and common needs in Core Capacity Areas (data management, human resources, technology, research) & follow up evaluation. Analysis of surveys will input on previous yearly plans as well as will assist with development of a regional profile in EIDM.

6. Establish a protocol for designing instruments for gathering information and feedback on Centre activities. Collect and utilise feedback and evaluation related to every Centre activity to provide direction on future plans both for region and boards.
